Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco - a Canadian as well as an American artist and singer. She has more than twenty albums. DiFranco's music has been classified as folk-rock and alternative rock but has additional influence from hip music and jazz. Ani DiFranco was the very first artist to launch her own record company in the year 1990. Ani is widely considered to be a feminist icon. DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970 in Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who was introduced to Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was Italian descent as was her mother from Montreal. Ani's song, 32 Flavors was written by her and sung by Ani. The song was featured on her album Not a Pretty Girl which came out in 1995. The song's version can be heard in the film Canadian romantic film Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 when it was announced that she would be hosting the three-day workshop on a Louisiana slave plantation. It was called off, but certain (including the media) did not think it was a sign of regret. DiFranco offered a second apology a few days afterward.
